[Review] The Face Shop - Designing Eyebrow Pencil

Hi everyone! :)

Today I'm gonna to share with you my first brow product review!

I admit, I'm not a pro when it comes to brow (still have much to learn). I used to have a lot of brow hair and it looks messy and manly (probably that's genetic idk XD). Then mum brought me to aesthetic beauty center to trim my brows when I started university. It costs around RM10 per appointment, then I thought I could just trim them myself back at home to save the money $$.

Okay, even so I still have uneven brows (and I think most of us do), but how to conceal the fact? Or I should say, how to make it appears less obvious?

Yes, pretty ladies, eyebrow pencil should be your best friend from now on! :3

The Face Shop's Designing Eyebrow Pencil | 더페이스샵 디자이닝 아이브로우 | 0.3g / 0.01 fl. oz.

The brow product I have here today is the Designing Eyebrow Pencil from The Face Shop (TFS). I bought them from Hermo, 2 for RM20 (current price might varies). The reason why I bought it's also because of cheap deals (of course).

The 2 colors are #03 Brown and #05 Dark Brown, respectively (as below). It was the only bundle option they have at that time, so I didn't really choose which color I want.

Just by a glimpse, you might not be able to tell the color difference. If you look carefully, #03 Brown is a bit like reddish-brown or yellowish-brown. I usually go for #03 Brown for a more vibrant natural look.

It has flat square tip which is less irritates compared than sharp edge tip. In a way, it is also easier to draw flat and straight brow, especially for beginners like myself.

Okay, it's the time for magic! (heh) 변신타임! ㅎ

 <--- Before (natural uneven brow><)

First, what I usually do is, to draw an outline (like below; for illustration only). It may take some time to find your favourite brow shape.

I'm going to use #03 Brown for illustration today.

Then, fill in the brows, from the front to the end.

Last and most importantly, blend out the edges (especially put more effort to blend the front-end) with the spoolie brush attached at the other end of the eyebrow pencil. Repeat the steps (whichever necessary) if you aren't satisfied with the results.

And, we are done! :D

Here's some photos I took on another day :) I used #05 Dark Brown to outline my brows, and #03 Brown to fill in the gaps.

You might noticed that my brow aren't perfectly symmetrical.. That's because I'm still haven't mastered the art of brow 😭 It's really frustrating, but I will keep trying.

As for the product itself, I think it is really convenient as it is an auto-eyebrow pencil, which doesn't require to sharpen from time to time, like the convention ones. All you need is to twist the cap to use brow pencil. Same theory as lipsticks. Make sure you close the lids after using, otherwise the formula will dries up.

Color wise, both #03 Brown and #05 Dark Brown are very suitable for daily look. The flat tip itself comes in super handy to create the straight-brow look.

Price wise, it is absolutely affordable and worth the money. I would recommend this for people like me (beginners; people who wants to sleep late in the morning yet wants their eyebrows done in few minutes).

Rating: 4.5/5

Recommend: Yes, great product with affordable price.

Repurchase: Yes!

[Restaurant] Brunch @ Kedai Kopi Janggut (鬍鬚佬茶餐室), Hilltop

2017년4월8일 (토요일) Brunch @ Kedai Kopi Janggut (鬍鬚佬茶餐室), Hilltop

Do you enjoy tom yam soup? Do you enjoy seafood? Do you like to explore new places?

If your answer is triple "yes" to the above questions, you are at the right place!

Brunch @ Kedai Kopi Janggut (鬍鬚佬茶餐室), Hilltop

- Address : 2, Lorong Gunung Ulu Merak 2, Taman Far East, 88300 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
- Operating Hours : 6:45AM - 3:45PM (Close at every Tuesday)

Actually I have been noticing this restaurant for quite sometime ago. I thought to myself, "that's an interesting name for a restaurant!" (literally "Kedai Kopi Janggut" means "Beard Cafe" in Malay). And yet, it has nothing to do with the beard, really.

This restaurant is located a block behind Klinik Hilltop. There are quite a few restaurants here are known for good food, and I hope I can share with you more in the future :)

Coming back to the Beard Cafe (heh).

As soon as we settled down, a staff carrying with a Tab (an electronic device) to take orders. He literally sat down on one of the chairs from our table, waiting for us to make the orders. Well... that's unexpected :x

Basically there are 3 steps to complete an order: (1) choose a soup base (tom yam, bitter-gourd, or choy sum), (2) choose between meehoon or mee, (3) choose the meat kind (fish slices, fish cake (鱼滑), prawn).

If you know me, how can I miss the chance to try out their tom yam soup? Nowayyy :9

Seeing the colour of the soup might be terrifying, but it is not as spicy as you thought it will be. In fact, the taste reminds me of Kedai Kopi Ah Chee Tom Yam (阿志冬炎), the one who used to be at Sinsuran, but now relocated to Gaya Street.

As for the meat selection, I chose fried fish slices. There are 4 big chunks of fried fish slices in per serving. Quite generous.

As expected, dad ordered with bitter-gourd soup base. They say it is good for health. It actually look and taste way more appetizing than I thought. Not that awful tho. If you had too much acidic foods recently which causes “yeet hay”, you may want to eat a bowl of this to cool it down.

Do I enjoy my brunch today? Picture speaks louder than words.

Brunch @ Kedai Kopi Janggut (鬍鬚佬茶餐室), Hilltop

To our surprise, a friend of dad's who was having meal nearby saw us and paid for our meal today. (Thank God for unexpected blessing!) The total bill for today's brunch is RM21.50. If I have guessed correctly, the 2 bowls of meehoon would cost RM8.50 each and 1 Kopi O would cost RM2.50. That's merely my guessing since we didn't ask the price of the food individually.

Will I revisit this restaurant in near future? Yes, I can't wait!

Will I recommend this restaurant? Yes, speed service and good food. Just a bit pricy, as expected.

Cheers! ^_^

[Review] Witch's Pouch - Selfie Perfect Concealer No. 21 Light Beige

Hello everyone! :)

Today I am going to share with you a very promising liquid concealer by Witch's Pouch. If you haven't heard of this brand, I hope this sharing today will give you a glimpse of it.

Review; Witch's Pouch's Selfie Perfect Concealer No. 21 Light Beige
Witch's Pouch's Selfie Perfect Concealer No. 21 Light Beige | 위치스 파우치 셀피 퍼펙트 컨실러 21호

Witch's Pouch, alongside with The Choute, Luabo and Clytia, is one of the cosmetic & skincare brands hold by iCharming Co. Ltd.

Why is it named "Witch's Pouch"? The word "Witch" is "Ma-Nyeo (마녀)" in Korean. Although it can be a term to describe ladies who are difficult to deal with, but at the same time, it can also refers to ladies whom are attractive enough to tempt men; in South Korea, they are called "Ma-Nyeo". Maybe this would remind you of the Korean drama "Witch Yoo Hee"?

I bought this product from Althea for RM20 quite sometime ago. The shade I'm using is No. 21 (Light Beige). It comes in a ballpen-like slim design (as below).

Its tip applicator/brush is made of micro fibre. All you need is to click the button at one end, the liquid concealer will be extract through the tip applicator.

It's design is very handy for spot concealing. First, apply the liquid concealer on the spots/blemishes you wish to cover. Then blend it out either with your fingertip, concealer brush, or beauty sponge - whichever your preference is.

Review; Witch's Pouch's Selfie Perfect Concealer No. 21 Light Beige

In terms of coverage, I think this Selfie Perfect Concealer is above averagely good. Though you might still notice blemishes in close, but they are almost invisible in normal contact/interaction distance. Good thing is, you can layer up the concealer to give higher coverage.

**Tip : Do not spread the formula across the skin if you want higher coverage! Try building or layering the formula by pressing into the skin with a beauty sponge instead.**

Overall, in terms of pricing and functionality, I think it is a worth purchase. I really like the canvass finishing after using this product. It almost looks like you are using a beauty filter while taking selfies, but you're not :D

If I must point out one thing which I dislike about this product, I would say the strong powedery scent (ahh-choo). Other than that, it's really a handy makeup product which you can carry it everywhere! :)

Rating: 4/5

Recommend: Yes, great functionality with affordable price!

Repurchase: Maybe, because I want to try out more products in the future..

[Restaurant] Breakfast @ Kedai Kopi Wah Juan (華園茶室)

2017년4월4일 (화요일) Breakfast @ Kedai Kopi Wah Juan (華園茶室)

You know you can't skip breakfast, right? :D

Something different for breakfast today. As we are sending dad to airport later, we decided to have our breakfast nearby. Well, technically, not "nearby" anymore since KKIA Terminal 2 has been shut downed for months now.

Anyway, this is a place we always will go for breakfast in occasion like that. We have so much memories here, especially our childhood, as dad will bring us before/after church service.

Breakfast @ Kedai Kopi Wah Juan (華園茶室)

- Address : Jalan Lee Thau Sang, Pekan Tanjung Aru, 88100 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
- Operating Hours : 7AM - 10:30PM (Close every Wednesday)

What do they serve here? Well, particularly they are famous for their pork-innards (猪杂) noodles. I don't fancy much about pork-innards actually. Dad and youngest sister love it tho. For me, I usually will order noodles with chinese spring rolls (春卷) or minced pork meat (碎肉).

Unfortunately, for dad, particularly pork-innards are not available as we were there too early. According to the staff, it will be available from 8AM onwards. We reached there about 7:30AM. (nawww) Not a problem for me tho (heh)

Breakfast @ Kedai Kopi Wah Juan (華園茶室)

Recently I noticed my appetite has increased, especially in the mornings. It reminds me of the saying, "eat like a king in the morning, eat like a beggar in the evening". Not really much that case, but yeah, just having good appetite in the morning.

The main point is, to please my appetite, I ordered extra noodles for my portion. (Geez) You just need to add RM0.50 for extra noodles. Great bargain! :9

Breakfast @ Kedai Kopi Wah Juan (華園茶室)

And this is how a standard portion should be like (as below).

Breakfast @ Kedai Kopi Wah Juan (華園茶室)

I love the texture of the homemade noodle. With the seasoning and a touch of grease, voila! We invented a name for the noodles here. We called it "油油面", literally translate would be "oily noodles".

I am not good with words when it comes to describe foods. But this is a recommended place from me to those who haven't visit this restaurant. This is one of my personal favourites in town.

Will I revisit this restaurant in near future? Yes, certainly!

Will I recommend this restaurant? Yes, of course!

Cheers! ^_^

[Review] Holika Holika - Baby Pet Magic Mask Sheet (Whitening Seal)

Hello everyone! :)

We are back with another mask sheet review! Btw we means Grace, the friendly and also talkative shark, and her mum a.k.a. mey. :p

Today we have this mask sheet from Holika Holika and its packaging is super adorable. It's a mother seal and a baby seal. (awww)

Holika Holika's Baby Pet Magic Mask Sheet (Whitening Seal)
Holika Holika's Baby Pet Magic Mask Sheet (Whitening Seal) | 홀리카홀리카 베이비 펫 매직 마스크 시트 (하프물범) | 22ml / 0.74 fl. oz.

If you noticed, there are these "freckles-like" spots on the mother seal's body. It is to resemble the spots we have on our face. Particularly this cute seal character mask sheet is meant to make skin clear like a baby's skin with its whitening essence/ingredient. For instance, Niacinamide (no. 3 on the ingredient list). It is best known for improving skin regeneration, increasing skin elasticity, removing age spots and brightening skin tone.

There is a hidden "easter egg" in this mask sheet. When the mask sheet contacts with the skin, the printed pattern on the mask sheet will slowly fade away through the heat infusion from our skin temperature. I was blown away with the idea, and that eventually the main reason why I bought this product. Notice the freckle-like printed pattern from the before and after transformation (as below).

Holika Holika's Baby Pet Magic Mask Sheet (Whitening Seal)

I bought it from Althea for RM6.60. However, I waited for more than 1 year now then I tried it. Why? Because the packaging is so cute and I'm not willing to open it... :x Anyway, I did at the end. That's why I'm sharing with you now.

TBH the mask sheet itself is a bit rough compared to other brands. Probably I kept it too long(?) I noticed the essence inside the pack seemed a bit yellowish. Not sure if it's originally that way, or not. No worries, I have checked the expiry date and it is still good to use.

Meanwhile, I also noticed a not-so-pleasant smell, which reminds me of factory smell? Or is it latex? Anyway, it stinks. Period.

And also, I forgot to take the "before and after" to check whether the freckle-like patterns fade as claimed on its description! (omg) By the time I checked, the patterns are no way to be found already... meh :/ Epic fail.

Rating: 1/5

Recommend: No, not much a difference anyway.

Repurchase: No, just for fun.

[Restaurant] Lunch @ Sabah Keratang, Sadong Jaya

2017년4월2일 (일요일) Lunch @ Sabah Keratang, Sadong Jaya

It is the first time after 5 years (around that time period) that my parents and I attended a Chinese Sunday service. It is a language which we grown up with and familiar with, yet it feels so awkward to sing praise and worship songs in Chinese. Anyway.

After Sunday service, as usual, we would have lunch outside instead.

Today we are visiting a local seafood restaurant which is well-known for its specialty - the freshest Giant Grouper in town! Besides that, they also have a other varieties of fish, such as tuna, seabass, squid and prawn available on the menu.

Lunch @ Sabah Keratang, Sadong Jaya

- Phone : +60 88-253 718
- Operating Hours : 7AM - 9:30PM (Sundays close at 2PM)

Sabah Kertang is a franchised restaurant originated from Sabah. This outlet at Sadong Jaya is their very first restaurant in Kota Kinabalu which was opened in year 2014. Now they have 3 branches in Kota Kinabalu (which is located at Api-Api Centre, Sadong Jaya and Plaza 333), 1 outlet located in Miri, Sarawak and the newest branch is at Sandakan. (source: Facebook)

It is around 12 noon when we arrived the restaurant. They have about 3 tables of customers. As soon as we placed our orders, we noticed there are about 6 tables of customers (including us). It has quite a good business considering the fact that it is Sunday lunch hour.

In total, we ordered 2 bowls of mee hoon and shared among 3 of us.

Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Peria, Sabah Keratang
Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Peria | Giant Grouper Mee Hoon Soup served in Bittergourd base | RM13

You can easily tell that it isn't my food choice (heh). For a change, dad says he wanted to try with bittergourd (as above) since he always had with salted-vege.

Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Sayur Masin, Sabah Keratang
Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Sayur Masin | Giant Grouper Mee Hoon Soup served in Salted-Vege base | RM13

And mine here is the one served in salted-vege and soft toufu. You can choose to have the grouper deep fried, or not. I ordered half-half since it is the same price anyway.

Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Sayur Masin, Sabah Keratang

Don't fool by its appearance. The soup broth is full of flavour and the sweetness of seafood. The toufu is cooked super soft and tender. How about the fish itself? Lemme show you the photo!

Mee Hoon Sup Ikan Sabah Keratang Sayur Masin, Sabah Keratang

Look, the skin is thick and full of collagen! Other than that, I'm quite disappointed as the fish parts they gave me in my portion are mostly thick bones @@ And I even got some fish scales on the skin... Hmm :/

Also, I think it is rather a small portion for the price, and overpriced too. All we get is just 4 pieces of fish parts, and other than that, mee hoon, salted-vege/bittergourd and toufu are all rather cheap ingredients.

TBH this is not my go-to food choice, but I do enjoy its flavour. Besides that, the fish is indeed very fresh. You will know when you taste it.

Will I revisit this restaurant in near future? By myself, most probably nope.

Will I recommend this restaurant? Yes, if you are a fan of seafood, definitely do try it out!

Cheers! ^_^

[Review] The Face Shop - Air Cotton Makeup Base SPF30 PA++ #02 Lavender

Hello everyone! :)

Today I am going to share with you a makeup base product which can also be used as a toning cream.

Toning cream (or, tone-up cream) has gained popularity recently. Just as its wording, it is used to lift your skin tone up, to a lighter tone, with a natural finish. Unlike foundation, BB or CC cream, toning cream doesn't have high concealing power. It is better to use when you are having a good-skin day, or even on the days when you are going for casual meetings or getting groceries (for example).

The product I have today is Air Cotton Makeup Base from The Face Shop, and the shade here is #02 Lavender. Although this product here is not labelled as "toning cream", I think it gives the same effect and it is also way more cheaper.

The Face Shop - Air Cotton Makeup Base SPF30 PA++ #02 Lavender
The Face Shop's Air Cotton Makeup Base SPF30 PA++ | 더페이스샵 에어 코튼 메이크업베이스 02 라벤더 | 40g

Remember colour-correcting technique which we covered previously? If you haven't, do check out here when I reviewed Etude House's Big Cover Concealer.

When green is used to compensate red, purple is used to compensate yellow. Same rules apply here. This makeup base has a lovely and soft purple tone (see below) which I fell for it instantly when I tried it at the shop.

The Face Shop - Air Cotton Makeup Base SPF30 PA++ #02 Lavender
The Face Shop - Air Cotton Makeup Base SPF30 PA++ #02 Lavender

In its ingredient list, it has Titanium Dioxide, which is an inorganic compound widely used in a range of body care products, such as sunscreen, toothpaste and makeup. As it provides instant whitening effect (a.k.a. titanium white), it is also one of the main ingredients for toning cream.

Okay, let me try it on one side of my face to show you the effect :)

Lightly rub and pat your skin for better absorption.

Do you see the difference (see below)? :3

Observe the skin tone under my eyes. The side which I applied the makeup base (on my right side) appears to have less redness than the other side. (probably because I was facing the sun in these photos, so overall my skin appears quite fair here @@) Anyway, the fact is, it really even out the yellowness of my skin tone.

As you can see, it has rather a natural finish. Depends on your preference, you can either proceed by applying foundation or BB cream, or you can just walk out just like this. It's up to you, really :D

For me, usually I will apply some liquid concealer on targeted spots (like under eyes and around the nose) for a daily look. This is absolutely one of my favourite go-to daily makeup products.

I bought this product during my last trip to South Korea. Thou I can't remember the actual price, but it's roughly about KRW3,500 (around RM14). I really wanted to try out their #01 Mint, if possible. It has gained quite a good review too.

Unfortunately, I didn't find this product being available during the last time I visited a TFS outlet in Kota Kinabalu. Be sure to check out this product when you have the chance :)

Rating: 5/5

Recommend: Yes, it does what it claims!

Repurchase: Yes, I love the cotton purple tone!

**Side note**
Fyi we have our first Kioda Korean concept store in Sabah, which is located at Palm Square, Centrepoint, Kota Kinabalu. (check out their Facebook live video here)

Interestingly, I found a product which its design look pretty similar to The Face Shop's Air Cotton Makeup Base. (see below)

Ximiso's Moisturizing Cream Concealer
Ximiso's Moisturizing Cream Concealer

This product here is a Moisturizing Cream Concealer from Ximiso. TBH this is the first time I heard of this brand, so no doubt I'm quite speculative about its products.

With much curiosity, I tried out their testers (both Mint and Lavender) on the back of my hand. I can tell that I'm not fancy about this product right on the spot.

First, its consistency is more liquidy(?) and oily than TFS', which makes it more like a moisturizer. Second, it is hard to tell the difference between applying the Mint and the Lavender. Their finishing results look the same to me (ops, sorry no picture). They have this shimmering and glittering-finish which could give a nice luminizing effect, but that's not my type.

The product is sells for RM15.90 at Kioda. If you are interested, you can try out their testers at the store.
**Side note ends**
