The English Tea House and Restaurant in Sandakan is very well-known for locals and a popular tourist destination. Its high altitude location is definitely nice spot to overlook the peaceful town and beautiful Sandakan Bay.

Opened since 2002, this English tea house offers authentic teas from around the world, scones, cakes and pastries and a wide ala carte selection of Asian and traditional English specialities.

I was especially mesmerized by its greenery garden works. Absolutely can see why people love to hold parties, gatherings, or even weddings at this venue!

So fortunate that the weather was bright and sunny the day we went. I just can't wait to have a sit under the tree and sip tea.

We ordered a set of their 2-layer English Tea Set. It consists of 2 big scones, 2 sandwiches and 2 muffins.

Looks pretty legit, but every component went wrong! Barely delightful. :((

First, I didn't expect the scones to be hand palm-size big. Perhaps this is the authentic way of making it, but I would prefer them smaller in size, preferably bite size. The sandwiches were plain coarse and dry - literally tomato slice, cucumber slice and a spread of butter. The muffins were spongy, but tasted so-so. I would say the Earl Grey tea was the only component I enjoyed on the table.

Such a disappointment on their food quality.

Nevertheless, I would say its okay to check out this place for tea, enjoy its environment and the sea view.

Hyeon's Travel Journal; St. Michael's and All Angels Church

Opened in 1925, St. Michael is the oldest stone church in Sabah. The impetus of this church's construction can be related back to a clergyman named William Henry Elton, who is the founder of St. Michael's Secondary School, located just right beside the church.

The church building was dynamited by Japanese forces in 1945 during World War II, left the shell of the church remaining standing. Reconstruction work  began soon after the war, and St. Michael's is still one of the few historic stone buildings remaining in Sabah.

We were informed that this church is particularly known for the beautiful coloured stained glass windows, which were donated to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of WW2.

However, in order to enter the church building besides church services, one is required to pay for entrance fee at the Elton Resource Centre (office beside). The fee is collected for the upkeep and maintenance expenses for the building.

We didn't enter the church building. However, touring around the building is just as exciting. Although it only takes 5 to 10 minutes to finish a tour around the whole building, it left us in awe of its beauty.

The commemorate the 100th anniversary of the parish, a memorial stone is place beside the church building. Interestingly, there are two time capsules being kept inside the same stone (as below) - to be opened in year 2038 and 2088 respectively.

One is just 20 years from now. Hopefully that I could live to that day of revelation! I just can't stop thinking what are the things people wanted to tell us 50 years ago.

Do you know? The church is also part of the Sandakan Heritage Trails, which connects the historic sights and monuments of Sandakan. Definitely check out this place!
