[Penang] Penang 6D5N Year-End Trip 槟城年尾之旅 Day 1.1 Departure●Hotel check-in

Penang 6D5N Year-End Trip 槟城年尾之旅

December 19, 2016 (Monday)

A short prelude. We booked our flight tickets about 2 months before departure, a week-long getaway and a holiday to be spent with family members. As I know, we have been to Penang before when I was young (probably primary schooling days), but not much that I could remember.

And this time over, we get to plan our own travel itinerary - to the places we wanted to go (of course!) and places of recommended.

If you haven't been to Penang yet, I hope you will be interested to read on and hopefully gives you some ideas of what it looks like.

For those who have been to Penang, I hope it will bring memories back to you and maybe you could share your own experience with me too!

So, hop-on!

Departure

We are flying with low-cost domestic airline - AirAsia for this trip. Our flight should take-off at 1:20PM, yet it was much delayed (for about 40 minutes) as the previous flight didn't land on-time. Though this is nothing unexpected, it still annoys us passenger. At the end, we were asked to move to another departure hall due to the delay.

Finally, our time to get on-board. Good thing to learn that now AirAsia has arranged passengers to get on-board according to seat sequence; for instance, red carpet/hot seats > Zone 1 (row 6 to 19) > Zone 2 (row 20 to 31). I think it's a great idea, but hopefully the airline personnel will enforce it strictly, of course, with the full cooperation from passengers.

The flight time is about 2 hours 45 minutes, from Kota Kinabalu (BKI) to Penang (PEN).

Interesting to find that AirAsia now is offering on-flight WiFi service upon purchasing a WiFi token (some sort of simcard, I presume). Then we had our pre-book in-flight meals served after all announcements.

I had Shepherd's Pie, and it is served with mineral water (as shown above). Inside the package, the pie has a beautiful out-crust. At the side, there are carrots and capsicum lightly stir-fired. Scooping into the pie, it can be observed the 1:1 potato pie and minced-meat fillings. The potato pie is rather smooth and plain, but no moisture. Chewing in with the minced-meat, the tastes compliment each other. It wasn't bad at all; moreover, what do you expect from in-flight meals? I rather satisfied.

But certainly, people long for foods that are delicious and cheap. With that saying, I hope Penang wows us with that statement.

After roughly 3 hours journey, we touched-down at Penang International Airport. The airport is rather smaller in size, but maintained at good state. As we were walking out from the arrival hall, we noticed there are about 15 car rental counters on our left. It took some time for us to decide to take which offer. At the end, we agreed on Proton Saga which should fit 5 of us comfortably.

(sorry for much narrative at this part)

Check-in to Sunway Hotel, Georgetown

It was about 20 minutes car ride from Penang International Airport to Sunway Hotel Georgetown. However, as we haven't get used to Penang's traffic, plus the roads are highly congested at that hour, it was almost 7PM.

We made our booking through Booking.com - 1 Deluxe Premier Room and 1 Deluxe Triple Room. It was about RM2,700+ for 5 nights, including buffet breakfast. Upon done with our check-in, our rooms were quickly showed. They are at the 16th floor, the highest floor of that building.

I will write a separate review on our stay in Sunway Hotel Georgetown later on.

---stay tuned---
